NZURI PROJECT 2 - NYENETERAI
CHANGING A LIFE IN ZIMBABWE
Nyeneterai Moyo is a grandmother in Zimbabwe and takes care of her 3 small grandchildren, while their widowed mother Rumby works in South Africa to provide for the entire family. Rumby is employed by Mrs Transcontinental (Mrs Africa Transcontinental) 2017 Lorna Greyling and her biggest concern is that her mother, who suffers from Endemic Goitre Condition, might not survive to take care of her children and that will result in her going back to Zimbabwe, lose her income and the entire family would suffer and most probably die of hunger.
Endemic Goitre Condition affects thousands of women in Central Africa and the main cause is the traditional eating of cassava & cabbage and deficiency in selenium & iodine.
The Africa Pageants Foundation supports the Nzuri Project and the finalists need to raise funds for this worthy cause. “Nzuri” means “Beautiful” in Swahili and the aim with this project is to reach, perform surgery, heal and beautify thousands of women who live with this terrible condition that is actually easy to rectify with surgery.
When the plight of Nyenterai came to their attention they made every effort to find a proper medical team in Zimbabwe to perform this life saving surgery.
The surgery was successfully performed on 5 April 2017 in Harare.
